The Macrobiotic diet is a weight loss diet. It’s a big commitment. It’s a lifestyle program, and it’s also a spiritual lifestyle. It was begun in Japan by Zen Buddhists and it includes um, spiritualism, that their yin and yang philosophy where the yin foods are sweet and cold, and the yang foods are hot and spicy. So it’s a balancing of those two food types. They go into the various tastes of sweet, sour, salty, so there’s a lot involved and um, the diet itself is very high carbohydrate. Some diets are 50 to 60 percent brown rice entirely. The protein, there’s a minimum amount of fish in the diet, it can only be like 5 or 10 percent. There are nuts and seeds, so it may be 80 percent carbohydrate and 20 percent protein at most. The soy products used in a macrobiotic diet are fermented soy, tempe, and miso, which is a good form of soy to ingest. The soy that blocks the thyroid, and binds up minerals in a bad way, the tofus, and the soy powders. So, their tempe and miso is, is good, but for a lot of people, including …

And today in this series I’ll be talking about dieting. The water diet, as a weight loss program, forget it, it’s crazy. Now the two aspects of the water diet are, that if you drink cold water either between, with or after meals, that the coldness stimulates the body to warm it up, using calories. It is crazy. I mean these extra calories that you burn off, from increasing temperature of your water, it’s just too bizarre. When you drink water with a meal, especially cold water, especially iced water, you diminish the hydrochloric acid in your stomach and your food does not get properly digested. And completely digested food will go through the intestine, and it will become the food of yeast and anaerobic bacteria that then will create a lot of byproducts that can cause gas and bloating in the intestines, and that can lead to a lot of problems. Those toxic byproducts can be absorbed through the gastro-intestinal tract lining and cause allergy reactions throughout the body.
